Canola Fields
Canola Fields
Katherine R Brown

State/Province: Nova Scotia
Country: Canada

Dimensions: 9 x 14
Artist's Statement: When I sorted out my studioa few years ago, the beginning of a painting with a clear blue sky turned up. There was, pencilled on it, the outline of the hills I could see from my studio window, with the blue extending below. Nothing more. I decided to finish it, using my imagination and thinking about what the painting was telling me. Often, a painting will dictate the next step if you keep an open mind. The blue below the far hills looked like a lovely lake, so I gave it an edge of low hills. Below, for the near shore, I painted an evergreen ridge. As I progressed more hills appeared and open spaces. More lake? Canola fields? Maybe. I painted the open spaces that had appeared bright yellow and completed the foreground with fir and deciduous trees. I thought of putting sailboats on the lake, but I decided That they would fight for atention with the yellow fields.

My Mum's World no.1
My Mum's World no.1
Richard Tiejun Chao

State/Province: NSW
Country: Australia

Artist's Statement: My Mum's World no.1. This’s a portrait of my mum. Every morning, my mum sits in the balcony and has a sunbathing. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's few years ago. As the condition progressed, she’s forgotten a lot of things. It takes her some time to recognizing who I am, which sometimes ends up laughters; and her ability to speak has been significantly affected. More and more she stares into space, being lost in her own imaginations. I know she has her own world of thoughts, but I am not able to glimpse it any longer. It took me quite some time to accept the reality and understand the situation: Alzheimer covers her memories though, meanwhile it deletes anything negative from her memories. Watercolor on paper, 114x78cm

Walking in the Rain
Walking in the Rain
Perry Chow

State/Province: Ontario
Country: Canada

Dimensions: 10 x 14
Artist's Statement: I enjoy capturing the small, everyday moments that happen on a rainy day. This painting is part of my series “It Rains…”, inspired by simple observations while waiting under shelter at an outlet mall. I was drawn to how people moved through the puddles, creating ripples and reflections that felt lively and ever-changing. The raindrops add a gentle rhythm to the background, tying everything together. Through this piece, I hope to share the quiet beauty and unexpected charm found in ordinary moments, especially on a rainy day.

Summer Breezes
Summer Breezes
Stella Dai

State/Province: ON
Country: Canada

Dimensions: 14 x 22 x 1
Artist's Statement: Summer Breezes - Captured at a café patio in Niagara-on-the-Lake, this watercolor seeks to translate the rhythmic, airy energy of a summer afternoon. My focus was on the "vibe" of a communal pause—the gentle hum of a bustling sidewalk transformed into a tranquil urban oasis. Through fluid washes, I aimed to reflect the movement of the breeze and the transient nature of light as it filters through the overhead canopy. This piece serves as an invitation to linger in the warmth of a fleeting moment and find beauty in the simple, sun-drenched harmony of the patio.

I tried capturing the enormity of the mountains as we meandered through the grass and shrubs along hills and valleys below.

Differant Perspectives
Differant Perspectives
Cathleen Earle

State/Province: Ontario
Country: Canada

Dimensions: 22 x 30
Artist's Statement: This painting is based on one subject but 4 different view points. One looking straight down on the tulips, one a closeup of the just the flowers, another looking from the side view and one a closeup of the vase and green apple. When you look at it from a distance your eye weaves diagonally from corner to corner following the pinks and reds and then following the greens and turquoise.I want the viewer to see some of the different perspectives that an artist contemplates before starting a painting and to look beyond just a vase of flowers.

Stripes
Stripes
Cathleen Earle

State/Province: Ontario
Country: Canada

Dimensions: 22 x 30
Artist's Statement: This painting was inspired by a love of reflections and patterns. I received this silver ice bucket recently and I knew I had to paint it. I loved how the stripped fabric reflected on the silver. The silver bucket almost gets lost in the fabric. I kept the background calm with solid shapes of colour, green cushion, brown of the chair and greys of the wall and shadows. I like to see how far I can go with pattern and folds and shapes, pushing it to the edge.

Reflecting Green
Reflecting Green
Barbara Eguchi

State/Province: Ontario
Country: Canada

Dimensions: 10.25 x 13.5
Artist's Statement: Reflecting Green I sit among the Swamp Milkweed and all our indigenous friends. May I feel the calm within this entangled inlet of layered tints and tones of green. I imagine that tiny cabin gently immersed across/ beyond. It’s standing quietly amidst the trees, a human complement to reflect upon, while bathing in this container of green. I’m curious to touch the sky and dive below the water’s surface. I choose to witness life’s simple harmonies, gently accepting the complex reflections I quietly distill. Deep gratitude for this time to pause, to paint, to breathe together.

A Messy Garden
A Messy Garden
Barbara Eguchi

State/Province: Ontario
Country: Canada

Dimensions: 10.25 x 13.5
Artist's Statement: A Messy Garden Immigrant and native plants gather in chaotic harmony. As a landscape architect, I am always tasked to create order and beauty. As a landscape artist I listen quietly, explore and appreciate a deeper sense of Nature’s structure hidden in the apparent messiness. She has arranged the plants to align with sun, soil and rain, with visiting insects and with each other. Against the background of shades and tints of green, dominant, white, daisy fragments drift together to structure this garden. My brush and paints follow the flow. Bee Balm, Milkweed, Echinacea and so many others complete this assemblage of overlapping layers that shift with time. I feel humility, the delight and discomfort of being present with what is. The process of painting allows me to feel ease with a landscape that cannot clearly be understood, and to open to the vulnerability and joy that I experience within this messy garden.

Nature's Exhale

State/Province: British Columbia
Country: Canada

Artist's Statement: Walking in the forest, I often find my artist's eye trying to order the tangle of underbrush. Learning to embrace the chaos, the overstimulation of texture, colour, life and decay has changed the way I paint, and I love seeing that disordered nature in this painting.

Vacant Lot
Vacant Lot
Susan Garrington

State/Province: Ontario
Country: Canada

Artist's Statement: I paint weeds and wildflowers to remind viewers of the beauty we are in danger of losing. Vacant lots are extremely rare now but were once common. Grasses and Queen Anne’s Lace are common now but I fear will eventually become as rare as vacant lots.
